Marbelous

Ceramic waste and up-cycling research

The current environmental changes challenges us to rethink materials and use of resources. These sculptural samples were made from material waste from Aalto universitie’s trap, the glazing station in the ceramic studio incorporates a waste bin into the sink which prevents materials from entering city sewer system through sedimentation process. The sedimentation within the collection bin mimics a similar process that happens within the river beds, collecting references of materials and layers over time. Marbelous is in a certain sense a form of memory or documentation of the collective activity within the ceramic studio.
The experimention process using the materials included applying traditional methods to study of crafting potentials. Marbelous has been part of the exhibition From nature to future at Helsinki airport part of Finavia Gallery, And has been invited to take part in the exhibition Solid ground at Aalto University's Vare gallery (2021) linked with the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) biennial, that was held in Rovaniemi.
